{"id":2381,"date":"2017-07-06T17:18:52","date_gmt":"2017-07-06T17:18:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.acugis.com\/blogs\/?p=2381"},"modified":"2017-07-06T17:19:14","modified_gmt":"2017-07-06T17:19:14","slug":"geohelm-a-new-route-to-open-source-gis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acugis.com\/blogs\/geohelm-a-new-route-to-open-source-gis\/","title":{"rendered":"GeoHelm: A new route to Open Source GIS"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><span style=\"color: #800000;\">GeoHelm<\/span><\/h1>\n<p>We&#8217;re very happy to announce the release of our new Open Source project; GeoHelm.<\/p>\n<p>GeoHelm is a Webmin module that installs, configures, and manages a complete Open Source GIS stack.<\/p>\n<p>It provides users of all skill levels with easy set-up and browser-based management without locking the user into a particular solution.<\/p>\n<p>You can even delete the module itself and all components will continue to operate normally.<\/p>\n<p>All software installed is the latest stable version direct from the provider (Apache Tomcat, Java, PostgreSQL, PostGIS, PgRouting, and GeoServer).<\/p>\n<p>The idea of GeoHelm is based upon our experience in administration and is intended to help address\u00a0what we believe are some of the main\u00a0barriers faced by users of various\u00a0skill levels.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>For those new to GIS, it provides an easy to install and easy to use interface to get going with Open Source GIS.<\/li>\n<li>For more experienced users it\u00a0minimizes the amount of time and effort required to go to production.<\/li>\n<li>For developers, it can help to address the most common issue we found when\u00a0developers go to production, namely; &#8220;It worked on my laptop&#8230;..&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>While GeoHelm is not an IDE (or seeking to become one), because it installs latest, unmodified versions of all software, it is the same software that will be used in production. \u00a0No surprises.<\/p>\n<p>Equally important, it installs the software on production Operating Systems, not in\u00a0a container or pre-built installer.<\/p>\n<p>GeoHelm is supported on CentOS 7, Debian 8 and 9, Ubuntu 14 and 16, Fedora 24 and 25, \u00a0and Scientific Linux 7.<\/p>\n<p>For full documentation, please visit <a href=\"https:\/\/geohelm.org\" target=\"_blank\">geohelm.org<\/a>. \u00a0A Quick Start guide can be found there as well.<\/p>\n<p>Please address any issues to: \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/AcuGIS\/GeoHelm\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/github.com\/AcuGIS\/GeoHelm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/acugis.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/OSVersionPNG2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2382 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/acugis.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/OSVersionPNG2.png\" alt=\"OSVersionPNG2\" width=\"932\" height=\"678\" srcset=\"https:\/\/acugis.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/OSVersionPNG2.png 932w, https:\/\/acugis.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/OSVersionPNG2-300x218.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 706px) 89vw, (max-width: 767px) 82vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GeoHelm We&#8217;re very happy to announce the release of our new Open Source project; GeoHelm.
