Import data from a URL¶
When the file already lives on the web, use URL instead of uploading it.
Before you start¶
You need an http:// or https:// link to a spatial file GeoJibe can read, for example a GeoJSON, GeoPackage, or ZIP that contains a Shapefile.
URL import does not ask for a username or password. If the file is private, use HTTP/API when the service can authenticate over HTTP, put it in S3, or upload it instead.
1. Add a URL Source¶
On the Canvas, add URL.
In Properties:
- Paste the Dataset URL, such as
https://gis.example.com/data/neighborhoods.geojson. - Click Import.
You can also pick a saved URL Source. The saved connection stores the URL; you still Import when you use it.
On Classic, choose URL under or import from.
2. Wait for inspect¶
After Import, GeoJibe downloads the file and inspects it. Layers, fields, and the map preview come from that inspect.
Transform Output Fields stay empty until Import succeeds. That is expected.
If the URL is an ArcGIS FeatureServer, GeoJibe sends you to the FeatureServer import instead. See Import a FeatureServer layer.
3. Make any changes¶
Add Convert or Transform if you need them.
4. Choose a Destination and Run¶
Download the result, or send it to PostGIS, GeoServer, or another Destination.
What happens next?¶
The file is copied into the current workflow. Later Run uses that snapshot, not a live re-download, until you Import again.
Limits you might notice¶
- Only public http/https URLs
- Local, private, and internal addresses are blocked
- Large downloads can time out or hit a size limit set by the server administrator
