PostGIS

PostGIS spatial databases are connected with the PostgreSQL provider. Use them for tabular queries and for PostGIS map frames.

Goal

Connect to a PostGIS-enabled PostgreSQL database.

Prerequisites

  • A PostgreSQL database with PostGIS installed
  • Credentials with permission to read the geometry tables you need

Steps

  1. Open Data → Connection Manager….
  2. Add a PostgreSQL connection pointing at your PostGIS database.
  3. Test and save.
  4. Build a query that includes geometry columns when you plan to map features.
  5. On Design, add a Map and choose PostGIS or Current Report Dataset as appropriate.

Result

You can query PostGIS tables and render maps from spatial SQL.

Tips

Tip

Keep geometry column names handy — map configuration asks for map SQL such as selecting a geometry column.
