Text Field

A Text Field displays a dynamic value — a field from the query, a parameter, a variable, or an expression.

Goal

Add a Text Field element to the report and configure it.

Prerequisites

• A report is open on the Design tab
• The target band exists

Steps

1. Select the Text Field tool (or insert a preset such as page number from Insert).
2. Place the field on the canvas.
3. Set the expression (for example $F{columnName} or open the Expression Builder).
4. Configure pattern, blank-when-null, stretch, and font settings.

Result

The Text Field appears on the canvas and in Preview according to its properties.

Tips

Tip

Open the Expression Builder when building calculated values instead of typing complex expressions by hand.
