Cascading Parameters¶
Cascading parameters refresh a child drop-down based on the parent selection — for example Country → State → City.
Goal¶
Link a lookup parameter so its list depends on another parameter.
Prerequisites¶
- Parent and child parameters exist
- Lookup SQL for the child can reference the parent with
$P{}/$X{}
Steps¶
- Open the child parameter in Parameter Manager.
- Open the Lookup settings and enable lookup.
- Write lookup SQL that filters using the parent parameter.
- Set Depends on to the parent parameter name(s).
- Choose display and value fields.
- Save, then open Preview and change the parent value to confirm the child list updates.

Result¶
Changing a parent value reloads the child choices before the report runs.
Tips¶
Tip
Test cascades with Data Preview and Preview prompting. Empty child lists usually mean the lookup SQL or depends-on list is incomplete.
